Welcome to Toledo Oregon...

I was thinking that anyone one here could talk about how their life in Toledo has been. Where you went to school, memories of Summer festivals past, sports or whatever. Here is a little from me.....OK, first, GP does smell bad but my mom always told me it was the smell of money, lol. I thought the ponds across the road smelled like tuna fish sometimes, but you actually get used to it. I remember playing softball or having practice up by the water tower and having to smell it for 2 hours, lol. I hated it then. I have moved away after being born and raised there for 22 years and I can honestly say that I miss the smells of that place for some reason. I have traded log and chip trucks to coal trucks and there is a HUGE difference. I SOOOO miss the smell of being behind a log truck that just came from the mountain, OMG what a lovely smell. Back to GP, I don't believe the water is tainted a bit, and the "smoke" (as people like to call it) that comes from the big stack and the rest of the mill, is not polution, it's steam...why do you think it disapates so quickly?Anyhow, Toledo is such a wonderful place to live and raise a family. One of my favorite places to eat was the Timbers, great food, prices, service and owners. The schools are great as well. I believe some of the schools have changed since I graduated in 2001, but none the less, there are still great teachers, coaches, mentors, firefighters, police officers (Dave Enyeart!!!) and other people in the community that are just wonderful people and will make you feel right at home. It's too bad you didn't get the opportunity to meet the late mayor Sharon Branstitter, what a wonderful person.Toledo also decorates the city, especially main street, for major holidays and events, it's just a great little community that I miss dearly.»
